Michael has more than twenty three years experience in insurance, commercial dispute resolution and litigation. He advises on a wide variety of issues arising from varied insurance products.

Michael’s key areas of practice are public liability, product liability, property, fidelity guarantee, accident and health and specialist recovery services. He acts on behalf of insurers providing advice on all aspects of public and product liability claims, ISR, business interruption and professional indemnity claims.

In addition, Michael has extensive experience in motor accident compensation claims incorporating a wide range of issues including indemnity/double insurance, jurisdiction (cross vesting and forum), contribution, use of experts to assist in the determination of liability issues (dynamics of the accident, seatbelts, alcohol and drugs) and the management of catastrophic injury claims.

Michael’s case experience includes:

  • Ongoing management of a multi million property liability claim for an energy company arising out of the destruction of a factory.
  • Many and varied  claims for principals, contractors, landlords and lessees arising out of injuries suffered by third parties  and workers.
  • Contract works liability claims involving both injury and property loss.
  • Class actions including Wallis Lake oyster contamination claim.
  • Claims arising from agricultural risks including escaping livestock and crop contamination/failure.
  • Acting in leading cases involving the interpretation of contractual indemnities in claims arising from building and construction work.
  • Defending claims against parties brought by labour hire personnel.
  • Wide experience in managing claims requiring consideration of workers compensation issues.
  • Advising underwriters on latent injury claims including dust diseases and molestation.
  • Acting in first representative action brought by the ACCC on behalf of an injured person.
  • Successfully defending underwriters interests in a number of complex arson matters.
  • Indemnity advice encompassing many and varied issues including a leading case on proximate cause.
