Matthew Brooks is a partner in HWL Ebsworth’s national transport group and has extensive experience in aviation, maritime, transport and tourism law. His practice comprises a broad spectrum of contentious and non-contentious advice to the transport industry.

Matthew represents many international and domestic airlines and their insurers in relation to passenger and third party claims, cargo claims, collisions, inquests, ticket wording, ground handling agreements, international conventions, coverage and contractual disputes. Matthew’s special interest is aviation casualty, investigation, and providing emergency response following major losses. He also provides the aviation industry with non contentious commercial advice, regulatory advice, advice on aircraft purchase agreements and maintenance agreements. Matthew is currently undertaking training for a Private Pilot Licence.

Matthew represents P&I Clubs, shipowners, cruise and ferry operators, and pleasure craft marine insurers in relation to passenger and third party claims, collisions, causality, inquests, salvage, cargo claims, international conventions, marine pollution, charterparty disputes, arbitrations, ticket and brochure wordings. He also acts for carriers, logistics and warehouse providers and their insurers and advises on all aspects of haulage, storage and operations. Matthew also provides the maritime industry with non contentious commercial and drafting advice. Again, Matthew’s special interest is maritime casualty and has represented many of the yachts which participated in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race “Fatal Storm”, and acted for ferry operators following major casualty incidents on Sydney Harbour.  Matthew has many years of professional sailing experience and power boat experience.
