Profile

Philip is well respected in the areas of insurance and dispute resolution and advice to corporate clients.

In the insurance sector Philip acts for both insurers and insureds. His particular areas of expertise are professional indemnity, directors and officers, general and public liability, life and disability claims, defamation and medical negligence.

Philip’s specific professional indemnity and directors & officers work experience includes acting for accountants, engineers, insurance intermediaries, municipal authorities and manufacturers as well as for a range of other professions including the medical & allied health professions. 

Philip also advises on policy interpretation and in the drafting of policy wordings and endorsements together with risk management and alternative dispute resolution.

Philip’s experience in general and public liability insurance has seen him acting for insurers in respect of occupiers’ liability, personal injury and economic loss claims. 

Philip additionally has many years of experience in undertaking dispute resolution outside of the court context and has represented his clients at significant numbers of mediations and settlement conferences. Philip has also represented clients in litigation in all jurisdictions.

Philip also acts for life insurers in respect of advising on policy wording, alternative dispute resolution and claims handling and representing insurers in litigation in all jurisdictions.

Philip also acts for a number of corporate clients particularly in the education sector where he advises them on all aspects of their business.  Other of Philip’s clients include various charitable and religious bodies for whom he advises on governance, risk and statutory obligations.

Philip’s experience in the law in excess of 25 years also sees him acting as a director of various school and endowment funds as well as membership of both the national and state legal reference committees of one of his national church clients.
