Peter Bittner is a Partner of HWL Ebsworth and is the national silo head of the Planning, Environment & Government practice group.  He has a breadth of experience working for a diverse range of clients including entities in the gas and electricity field, bio-recycling and energy production, resource companies, Local and State Governments and government entities, large residential, retail and industrial developers. He has also worked with smaller scale developers on projects such as small lot housing, local convenience centres, taverns and residential developments.

Peter caters for the specific requirements of HWL Ebsworth’s national clients with tailored advice and practical support in the following areas of law:

Environmental Law

• Compliance with Local, State and Commonwealth laws;
• Strategic advice on all aspects of approvals, compliance and due diligence associated with a variety of projects;
• Triggers for referral under State and Commonwealth laws;
• Contamination and remediation;
• Due diligence investigations prior to purchase;
• Advice on conditions of approval and compliance;
• Vegetation clearing under Local, State and Commonwealth laws;
• Contractual negotiations and risk allocation; and
• Prosecutions and enforcement.

Town Planning Law

• Obtaining and advising on approvals, exemptions and requirements for a variety of development projects;
• Development application litigation in the Planning and Environment Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal;
• Due diligence investigations associated with the acquisition of infrastructure, business and property;
• Advice work in all aspects of town planning law including both back end and front end advice; and
• Contract advice on sales and acquisitions.

Compulsory Acquisition, Compensation & Valuation

• Advice work in relation to acquisitions;
• Litigation in the Land Court, Land Appeal Court, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court; and
• Lodging and negotiating claims with resuming authorities.
